There was a special on TV recently about cruises. They featured the Norwegian Pearl, showing all areas of the ship. Some of it is on the website http://www.cnbc.com/id/29139914?__source=vty|cruiseinc|&par=vty . Yesterday, Steve and I met the cameramen because they were in Ellenville to film another documentary. Ship looks really nice. I'll take many pictures when we're there but know I'll never be allowed in the "behind the scenes" areas.
Since we reserved and paid in advance, we were "upgraded" from Deck 4 to Deck 10. Cabin is the same (inner) but costs more. I can't figure that out. No window, both inner, same size... We're 2 levels down from the Exercise Room so that's a good thing. I'm planning to go there each morning with Alison. I'm much better about exercising when I am "accountable' to another person.

Email while on the cruise
I read that they have Internet service available but doubt we'll use it. Not sure if they give a deal for using our own computer.
Emails can be sent to us at

Good that I don't have to remember that one!
When we get to port, we might go to an Internet Cafe to check our email.

Shore Excursions
One word for them ... overcharging.
We decided to book only ONE from the cruise line and a bus reservation from an Alaska vendor and just "wing it" for other places.
We're all going on the Ketchikan Duck Tour. I've always wanted to take one of these. Saw them in Dublin and Seattle, and know many other places have them. Should be fun. Hope the weather is good.
We had booked a tour in Juneau to see the Mendenhall Glacier. Cost was $45 per person. David found a local vendor that had bus for $14 per person (plus $3 each for Visitor Center) so I cancelled the costly one.
Steve and I like to do more on our own and not have to book too much in advance.
Nothing planned yet for Skagway but will have time there to decide to do something if we want. Looks like it's good walking place. We'll be in Victoria for evening only so will take a walk. Since we were there last year with Barb and Ron, we're not so concerned about seeing much. Might have gone to the Gardens but not enough time to truly enjoy it.
Most important... pictures...and lots of them, as usual.

Almost time to leave
Needed errands done. Sean is at the kennel (Miss him already), dropped off Mail Hold at Post Office, House Watch at Police Department, got cash from ATM, and keys to Stan for pickup at LaGuardia when we return.
Went on AirTran site to get boarding pass and saw they were offering, for a cost, upgrades to Business Class. I thought that was strange since when I called just after midnight, someone from AirTran told me there were no seats available to use our points. Decided to call again, just to check, and was told YES there were seats so we're flying Business Class for 2 flights tomorrow. No charge for checking bags when in Business Class so decided to check them. We're taking the Netbook with loaded-in movies so that's good. We're sitting next to each other so will use the plug that lets us plug in both our earphones. No competing for watching a movie. On the trip back home we'll both be in aisle seats but that's okay since it's the Red Eye so we'll both probably sleep.
My not putting everything into the suitcase worked out as a good idea since now I can pack the liquids and not have to squeeze them into the quart size bag. On the way home, most containers will be empty so they can be in the carry-on.
Not sure if I'll get to upload anything while we're on the cruise but I'll write each day anyway. Probably will upload when we get to Barb's house. Should be interesting to see how this works out.
